WHO IS DEMETRA'S FLAVOURS OF SICILY

"Demetra's Flavours of Sicily" is an elegant and unique on-line shopping experience! It not only provides our clients with sumptuous Sicilian products...but it also delineates specific Sicilian regions where these products are derived from and produced. Our products are listed in the Presidium of Slow Food and have obtained the labels of either "DOP" (Protected Designation of Origin) or "IGP" (Protected Geographical Indication.) The primary objective of "Demetra's Flavours of Sicily" is undeniable satisfaction for customers who seek authenticity and quality products for their tables...with culinary achievements that only artisan can guarantee!

Demetra's story

 

The idea of "Demetra's Flavours of Sicily" began in August of 1983 when Ugo Petrillo arrived at Comiso NATO BASE - Ragusa, Sicily as an Intelligence Liaison Officer. Being an extremely conscientious person regarding nutrition and a firm believer of "Longevity through Eating" - - - during his free time from Intelligence work, Ugo traveled throughout Sicily and its twelve surrounding islands searching for the best natural ingredients from which the most sumptuous culinary could be produced. All of the products represented and produced by the "Demetra" line have an affinity with specific regions of Sicily to accentuate the most exquisite ingredients and resulting flavours!

 

Within a span of seven years (from 1983-1990), Ugo searched out and experienced numerous culinary traditions from all nine sicilian provinces: Messina, Catania, Siracusa, Ragusa, Agrigento, Caltanissetta, Enna, Palermo and Trapani. This effort resulted a keen awareness achieved by Ugo that further enriched him on "the taste of knowledge" culminating with a true, undeniable understanding that Sicilian products are a triumph of colors, fragrance and scents that once experienced will never be forgotten! While enjoying local dishes at family-run farmhouses through Sicily, Ugo confirmed that Greeks, Romans, Arabs, Hebrews and Spaniards left a strong regional impact for production of natural ingredients products which are valued and culminate with a gastronomic culture within a splendid form of culinary art!

 

In January of 2020, Ugo proposed "Demetra's Flavours of Sicily" to Mr Alan Bradshaw, my first Intelligence Director at Comiso NATO BASE. Within several months of assiduous collaboration...the idea of "Demetra" turned into a reality.
